How to vote in Spain

  • The vote can be deposited at the ballot box of the polling station corresponding to the voter's census section, at post offices if voting by post and at Embassies, Posts or Consular Sections (including honorary consulates) in the case of voters living abroad (where they can deposit the envelope with the documentation previously received by post).

  • Spanish citizens living in the territory don’t need to register to vote.

    In the case of the Census of Residents Abroad (CERA) closed for each election, changes in the constituency from one constituency to another occurring in the year prior to the date of the call for elections will not be taken into account. There is a period for complaints after the publication of the call for elections (Town councils and consulates are obliged to maintain a consultation service for the electoral lists in force in their respective municipalities and districts for a period of eight days, starting on the sixth day after the call for elections).

  • ID document (DNI, passport, driving license or residency card)

  • The Provincial Delegations of the Electoral Census Office will send by registered post all the documentation related to the voting, from the 18th day and before the 25th day following the call to the address of the registration of each person of Spanish nationality registered in the census of resident-absent voters living abroad.

  • Closed list.

    In 2024, 61 Spanish MEPs will be elected.

  • Proclaimed candidatures shall be made public on the twenty-eighth day after the call of the election in the State’s Official Gazette, which is approximately one month before the elections.

  • Voters who cannot read or who, due to a disability, are unable to choose the ballot paper or to place it in the envelope and hand it to the President of the polling station, may be assisted in these operations by a person they trust.
