How to vote in Luxembourg

  • You vote at the polling station of the commune where you live.

    If you are Luxembourgish national living abroad, you will be able to vote by post.

  • All persons registered on the electoral rolls (the list of Luxembourgers and the list of EU-citizens who are voting in the European elections) up to the age of 75 years are obliged to vote.


    Luxembourgish nationals living in the territory don’t need to register for the EU Elections.

    Nationals living abroad need to send a request to the commune by post or via myguichet.lu.

  • The registration period for nationals living abroad starts 12 weeks before the election day, ending 40 days prior.

  • On the day of the election, voters may go to the polling station with their identity card, passport or residence permit, but do not need to bring their poll card.

  • Other EU nationals can vote in the EU elections in Luxembourg if they have their legal residency in the country. To enter the electoral roll, they need to register not later than the 55th day preceding the elections day in the commune or via myguichet.lu.

  • Preferential Voting.

    In 2024, 6 Luxembourgish MEPs will be elected.

  • Candidates will be announced at least 65 days before the election date. You can find more information on this website.

  • Anyone with a disability can ask someone to accompany them into the voting booth. This is provided for by law.

    The voter alone chooses who he wants to vote for. The attendant must keep the vote secret.

    A blind or visually impaired person can use a tactile model as an aid to voting.
