How to vote in Bulgaria

The European elections will take place in Bulgaria from 6 to 9 June 2024.
The election date is set by the President of the Republic not later than 60 days before the election day. The election date has not been scheduled yet.

You have to vote at the polling station determined by the permanent address indicated on your identity cards. You can vote at a polling section related to your current address, but prior registration with the relevant local administration at your current address is required no later than 14 days before polling day.

There is no registration in Bulgaria. Each voter is entered on a single electoral list based on his permanent address. Any voter whose permanent and present addresses are located in different settlements, may request to be entered on the electoral list according to his present address not later than 14 days in advance of election day.
Bulgarian citizens living abroad can submit an application to vote through the website of the Central Electoral Commission or in person/by post to any diplomatic mission or consular representation of the Republic of Bulgaria in the relevant state. -
If you are a Bulgarian citizen living in Bulgaria, you do not need to register in advance, as this is done automatically by the authorities.
If you are a Bulgarian citizen voting from abroad, you have to declare your intention to vote no later than 25 days before election day. -
An identity document: ID card or passport; certificate of residence of a national of another European Union Member State

Those expats who wish to be entered on an electoral roll, should fill in a declaration form and submit it to the municipal administration exercising jurisdiction over their residence address in the Republic of Bulgaria not later than 40 days in advance of election day.
Expats who have once filed such a declaration and have been included in the electoral roll, in subsequent elections for Members of the European Parliament are entered automatically in the electoral roll without filing a new declaration unless there are changes in any declared circumstances.

Preferential voting system.
In 2024, 17 Bulgarian MEPs will be elected. -
Candidate lists are registered not later than 32 days before the date of elections. The parties and coalitions which run in the elections are announced not earlier than 45 days before the election day.
A complete list of all candidates is published on the website of the Central Electoral Commission shortly after the end of the registration period. -
People with permanent disabilities may vote with a mobile ballot box, but need to declare their wish to do so not later than 14 days before elections by submitting an application form.
